NEWS: U.S. To Extend Transportation Mask Mandate Into 2022

The global health crisis continues to have a significant effect on the travel industry.

Of course, we still see a number of health measures in place in the Disney theme parks, but you may also run into some during your travel. Nationally, some transportation has been under a mask mandate for some time and the mandate has now been extended again.

According to Reuters, President Biden’s administration confirmed that it plans to extend the requirement that travelers wear masks on airplanes, trains, and buses and at airports and train stations.

Previously, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) transportation mask order was set to expire in September. Now, the mandate will remain in place through at least January 18th, 2022.

A spokesperson for the TSA noted, “The purpose of TSA’s mask directive is to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on public transportation.”

“The extension reflects the impact of the highly transmissible Delta variant,” Reuters adds, “And is an acknowledgment that transit remains potentially risky, especially for unvaccinated people.”

At this time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines advise that unvaccinated people delay all travel until they can be fully vaccinated.
