Over the past month, more face mask and vaccine mandates have started to pop up, particularly in areas where potential spread of COVID-19 is high. Last month, Los Angeles County modified its health guidance by requiring face masks to be worn indoor, regardless of vaccination status.

Now, more specific guidance is coming forward for what the county classifies as a “mega event.”
According to CBS Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health have stated that all people attending both indoor and outdoor “mega events” must wear a face mask, except when actively eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status. The mandate will go into effect on Thursday, August 19th at 11:59PM.

The Department of Health defines a “Mega Event” as “events with large crowds greater than 5,000 (indoors) and 10,000 (outdoors) attendees.” This new guidance covers all of Los Angeles County, which would include Universal City, where Universal Studios Hollywood is located. At this moment, Universal Studios Hollywood has not updated their outdoor face mask policy, though currently masks are required to be worn indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

Also in the works is a vaccine mandate specifically in the city of Los Angeles, which is currently under review by the Los Angeles City Council. A motion was approved last week to require people present proof of vaccination when entering indoor public areas. An exact plan for how this measure would go into effect is currently under review.

We’ll keep an eye on all of the latest developments coming out of California, Los Angeles County, and Orange County so you can stay in-the-know on the most updated health mandates on your next Disneyland and Universal trips.
