Ever since Disney World started to reopen, we’ve been closely following the health and safety measures in the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs.

We’ve seen many additions to the policies, especially when it comes to enforcing the face covering rules. However, yesterday Disney announced a relaxing of the rules for the first time since reopening. The new procedures would allow guests to remove their masks for photos in certain situations starting tomorrow, but it seems that the policy has gone into effect a day early.
With the new rule, Disney World guests are allowed to remove their masks for outdoor photos if they are stationary and physically distanced from other guests. This change does not apply to indoor photos or ride photos, and guests must still keep their face coverings on at all other times unless they’re actively eating, drinking, or in a Relaxation Station.

This new policy was supposed to begin on April 8th, but started a day early in Magic Kingdom, where we saw PhotoPass photographers taking maskless photos of guests in the park. The guests were not allowed to remove their masks until they were in the specified photo spot and away from others, but then they could take them off to smile for the picture.

In the area near Cinderella Castle, we noticed Cast Members reminding guests to stay distanced from each other when taking photos. Guests are also told that they must promptly put their masks back on when finished, before they walk away.

We also noticed that the signs with the old requirements were still in place around the park and the overhead announcements still remind guests to keep their face coverings on for photos.

We’ll make sure to keep an eye out for this policy around the other parks, and we’ll let you know of any more major changes to the health and safety regulations. Stay tuned to AllEars for the latest updates!
