A few months ago, Disney announced some layoffs that would affect about 28,000 Cast Members in the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products division.

A number of Cast Members from some of our very favorite live entertainment shows in Disney World have been affected by these layoffs and many shows have been discontinued. But now, we’ve gotten an update from Disney about the return of some entertainment to the parks.
Today, Josh D’Amaro — the Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products — gave a keynote speech at the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Expo with key updates about Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort, the Star Wars hotel, and more.

But, D’Amaro also gave an update on live entertainment in the parks. D’Amaro specifically said, “We’ve heard from many of our guests that they’re looking forward to us bringing back some of the entertainment that we recently had to discontinue, and we plan to do that.”

D’Amaro didn’t say which shows or entertainment would be brought back, but it is great to hear that the company is planning to bring back some of the shows that we’ve missed so much.
At Disney World, Finding Nemo: The Musical, Festival of the Lion King, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, and the shows involving the citizens of Main Street, U.S.A. and citizens of Hollywood have all been discontinued at the moment, and many performers having been laid off. You can read Disney’s statement about these layoffs here.

To all the Disney performers out there who have been impacted by these layoffs: we miss you and our hearts are with you. We hope to see many of you back in the parks very soon.
We’ll definitely keep an eye out for more information about entertainment at the Disney theme parks and let you know what we hear. Stay tuned for all the latest updates.
