National Geographic’s original series The Right Stuff premiered on Disney+ last week. The series is a fictional retelling of NASA’s Project Mercury, the first U.S. human spaceflight program.

But Disney+ will also air a documentary special called The Real Right Stuff, which will tell more of the true story that inspired the series.

Viewers can expect to see never-before-seen footage, including some very tense moments between the Mercury-Redstone 4’s hatch door accidentally blowing open after splashdown and the recovery of the astronaut inside.

The documentary will also feature rare early radio and video recordings, along with never-before-scene research materials used by Tom Wolfe, who wrote the novel the dramatic series (and earlier movie) is based on. In addition, astronaut John Glenn provided some newly-digitized home movies for the special, capturing some rare personal moments with his family.

Disney+ also released a trailer for the documentary special, which you can check out below!

The Real Right Stuff will begin streaming on Disney+ on November 20, which is also the date of the season finale of The Right Stuff.
