After a long day of Disney theme park news, we needed a breather to kick back and relax!

As we’re gearing up for all the new movies and shows coming to Disney+ in June (and feeling very excited for the Secret Society of Second-Born Royals shortly after in July), we have a teensy bit more news to share with you!

According to Variety Magazine, Disney+ is slated to launch in Japan on June 11th!

Viewers will be able to subscribe to the streaming platform through the network NTT DoCoMo for $6.49 (or JPY700) a month. If someone already has an existing DoCoMo account, they can purchase a subscription directly on disneyplus.jp by signing in.

The current subscribers of Disney Deluxe will have their account upgraded to Disney+ at no additional cost, since it is already a joint service between Disney Japan and NTT DoCoMo.

The original launch will allow viewers to watch more than 500 Disney films and 100 series through the streaming service. While the streaming service already has 54.5 million subscribers in places like the U.S., Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and India, Japan is reportedly the world’s third largest entertainment market.

The managing director of The Walt Disney Company in North Asia Luke Kang has stated: “We have a deep and long-standing relationship with [Japanese] consumers who have helped build our substantial legacy with their love and loyalty. The Walt Disney Company’s beloved stories of hope, courage and optimism have always resonated strongly with our fans in Japan, and Disney+ will only strengthen and magnify this engagement and resonance.”

Although Disney+ will be coming to Japan in June, there is no news at this time when Tokyo Disneyland will reopen to guests.
