Although we aren’t sure when Florida theme parks will be officially re-opening their gates to guests, they have been taking steps forward with Disney Springs and Universal City Walk starting their phased re-openings later this month.

While the Re-Open Florida Task Force has been working on ways to re-open businesses up again, multiple venues have been making decisions regarding whether they will open up sooner rather than later.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orange County Convention Center will be reopening on June 16th to host a high school national volleyball tournament with a planned 30,000 people in attendance.

Currently Florida is still in Phase One of its re-opening plan, but the convention center has stated that it will maintain safety protocols and spatial distancing during the 47th AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships.

There will be temperature checks of players and officials before the games as well as “masking, hand-washing, pre-screening… and social-distancing queues” according to Dr. Don Plumley, the chief quality officer at Orlando Health’s Arnold Palmer Hospital.

Nadia Vanderhoff, who has spoken for the convention center, stated that there’s 11 pages of new protocols for anybody coming to the event space, which happens to be the second-largest meeting space in the US. While guests are standing in lines, using elevators, or making their way around the convention center, they will need to stay 6 feet apart from one another. Physical layouts, including seating, will also be arranged to promote distancing.

Currently, Orange County Convention Center has aimed to be recognized by the Global Biorisk Advisory, along with other convention centers and stadiums. This division of the International Sanitary Supply Association recognizes large venues that meet the criteria for specific cleaning and disinfection requirements.

While there isn’t a timeline for when other large venues like Florida theme parks will be re-opening, we’ll continue to keep you updated with more news!
