Of course, not all stressful travel experiences are created equal, especially when it comes to America’s airports.

Recently, Mozio, the “world-leading ground transportation aggregation company that connects 3,000+ transport providers with travelers and travel companies across 180 countries”, has assembled a list of the country’s most – and least stressful airports.

Ready for your flight

Mozio analyzed the 20 busiest airports in the U.S. by passenger traffic, taking numerous factors into account, including:

    • How frequently flights are delayed
    • How much it costs to park for a day
    • How long it takes to reach the city center

Using that data, the company says they have identified “which airports make travel feel straightforward, and which can add stress to your trip” using a normalized score out of 10 for each factor. Then they calculated a combined overall airport stress score.  So, what did they find?

Let’s begin with the nation’s most stressful airport. It’s… (DRUMROLL PLEASE)… Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport!

According to Mozio, Chicago’s airport scored an 8.42 out of 10 on the airport stress scale thanks to frequent delays, high parking costs, and “one of the longest journeys into the city center among major U.S. airports.” Furthermore, they found that just about 25% of the airport’s flights departed outside 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Meanwhile, terminal parking costs $43 per day, and the drive to Chicago Union Station takes about an hour. New York’s LaGuardia and JFK airports rounded out the top 3 as far as most stressful go.

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the spectrum, Minnesota’s Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport was the least stressful in America based on Mozio’s scores, with only a 1.76 out of 10.

According to Mozio, Minneapolis-Saint Paul has one of the highest on-time departure rates in the study, with over 80% of flights leaving within 15 minutes of schedule. Parking is also on the lower end at $30 per day, and the drive into the city takes just 20 minutes to reach the Minnesota State Capitol. The rest of the top 3 is rounded out by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.

Guests considering traveling to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, or any of Central Florida’s other tourist attractions will be happy to know that Orlando International Airport (MCO) makes Mozio’s Top 10 Least Stressful Airports, coming in at #8.

MCO scored a 4.39 on the stress scale, with about 75% of flights departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, and $24 parking.
