The Best Things I Ate While I Was Stuck in Airports Last Week

We were stuck at the airport for 24 hours! We were supposed to leave Singapore from the Disney Adventure cruise ship to fly to Paris to preview the new Disney Adventure World theme park, but the airline gods had other plans.

At first, our connecting flight from Singapore to Istanbul was delayed, and then canceled entirely! We were stuck in Singapore for a day and a half while waiting for our rescheduled flight. So for some hard-hitting journalism, here’s everything we ate while stranded in Singapore!

The first thing you need to know about the Singapore airport is that it isn’t just a travel hub — it’s a tourist destination in and of itself. There’s a movie theater, a butterfly garden, and the Jewel Rain Vortex, the largest indoor waterfall in the world!

Because lots of people will casually come to the airport like it’s a mall, airport security was at each wing of the terminals, not at the front of the airport like most places. We couldn’t access any restaurants from our terminal since everything was before security.

While our flight was delayed, they passed out snack bags for everyone. It had a bag of Lay’s chips, Kit Kats, oat cookies, and a water bottle. For the food, this was more than most plane snacks we’ve had! The room temperature water was rough, though.

Once our flight had been canceled, we stopped for ramen before we left the airport. This is the best ramen we’ve had in our entire lives, not exaggerating. Ippudo Express is our new favorite thing if you’re ever in Singapore!

Thankfully, the airline covered a hotel for us while we waited for the next flight out! So in true American fashion, we had celebratory McDonald’s before we went to bed.
