The extremely popular Avatar franchise now has THREE films, and the most recent film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is in theaters right now.

The film has done incredibly well in the box office, grossing $340 million worldwide in the first weekend alone. People are still rushing to the theaters to see this new release, but for those who aren’t a big fan of theaters, or who prefer to watch movies at home, the film will eventually come to Disney+. While Disney hasn’t announced exactly when this new film will be released on streaming, we’ve done some research and have some guesses!
Avatar: Fire and Ash released in theaters on December 19th, 2025, and it’s very likely we’ll need to wait multiple months until we see it hit theaters. How do we know this? Well, we took a look at the previous Avatar film, Avatar: The Way of Water, for comparison.

Avatar: The Way of Water was released in theaters in the United States on December 16th, 2022 — right around the same time of year as the most recent film’s release. This is likely due to lots of people being off from school and work around this time of year, so they have more time to head to the theaters together to see the film.

However, the second Avatar film didn’t arrive on Disney+ until June 7th, 2023! Yes, that’s just under SEVEN months later, and we’re expecting to see a similar pattern for this film. Why is this? Well, Disney wants to keep the film ONLY in theaters for a while, because if people really want to see the film (before it’s half a year old), they’ll head to theaters.

While many theaters (including the ones around me) only show their upcoming showtimes week by week, it’s safe to assume you’ll still be able to see this film in theaters for a few more weeks due to its popularity.
