Pixar just added a legendary new voice to its upcoming film — and the reveal has everyone buzzing.

Pixar’s upcoming animated film Hoppers just dropped a casting announcement big enough to turn it from “one to watch” into “clear your calendar for opening weekend.” We may already have a glimpse of what this original film has in store (along with its release date) but it’s clear Pixar isn’t done surprising us. In fact, this latest reveal proves they still have a few major tricks tucked up their sleeves as the premiere draws closer.
Pixar is dialing up the star power for its next original animated adventure, Hoppers, and the latest addition is none other than Meryl Streep.

In a surprise casting announcement on Pixar’s social media, the legendary actress was confirmed to be lending her voice to the Insect Queen, a monarch butterfly.

But when she ventures into the wild, Mabel realizes her actions carry weight. She uncovers a high-stakes conflict between nature and construction, and she must lead a rebellion of animal folk to protect their endangered home.

Bringing Meryl Streep into Hoppers feels like Pixar pulling out all the stops for this film. Streep often brings depth, empathy, and nuance to her past roles and as the Insect Queen, we could see her channel that regal gravitas, to bring warmth, or even a gentle comedic touch, into her character. The mere presence of her name in the cast list signals Pixar’s intention to make Hoppers not just a fun romp, but a film with heart and ambition.

But, Meryl Streep isn’t alone in the list of notable celebrities lending their voice talents to these upcoming characters. She’s also joining the cast of a talented ensemble in Dave Franco, Kathy Najimy, Jon Hamm, Melissa Villaseñor, Ego Nwodim, and more.

Meryl Streep joining Hoppers as the Insect Queen is a delightful and meaningful touch. It elevates what’s already a very intriguing premise, and suggests that this film will resonate not only with kids but with adults who appreciate layered storytelling. With a release date in early 2026, there’s still time for the buzz to build.
