Why Driving in Disney World Is Getting More Complicated This Weekend

One of my least favorite parts of Orlando is the traffic! There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to get into your favorite Disney park and having to sit and wait at a standstill while everyone makes a left turn.

And we’re off!

Unfortunately, traffic is about to be a bit worse at Disney World right now.

From October 23rd to 26th, the 2025 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will be taking place at Disney World. This event is hosted by runDisney and features thousands of participants running through the parks and streets, completing 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons.

Here’s a look at the schedule:

    • October 23rd — Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports
    • October 24th — 5k
    • October 25th — 10k
    • October 26th — Half marathon

The races start very early in the morning (the half-marathon starts at 5 AM, to give you an idea), and while they are usually finishing up either before the park opens or shortly after, this event draws thousands of people. You might see a lot more buses along with cars on the streets in Disney World.

You also might run into road closures. Disney blocks sections of roads to ensure the runners can safely complete the course. While this mostly affects Marathon Weekend in January, you might see some road closures on October 26th for the half-marathon. There will be lots of people redirecting you and lots of signage as well.

If you’re staying on Disney property, you might want to use their transportation. While it might lead to longer waits, it can be easier to navigate, and you won’t have to worry about driving through the redirected routes, since the bus drivers are experts at navigating the closed roads.

    • February 26th to March 2nd, 2026 — Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend
