CONFIRMED: “it’s a small world” Is Closing for Its Holiday Overlay Next Month in Disneyland

We’ve got good news and bad news. Which would you like first? The good news is that a popular Disney ride is getting a fun holiday transformation this winter. The bad news is that Disneyland’s “it’s a small world” attraction will be unavailable for a while as it is set to close for its annual holiday transformation next month.

The holiday overlay!

According to the Disneyland operational calendar, the iconic attraction is set to close on October 30th for its annual transformation into “it’s a small world” Holiday. While the current Disneyland calendar only shows information through October 31st, we would expect the attraction’s holiday overlay to be open in time for the start of Disneyland’s Holiday Season kickoff on November 14th.

The iIt’s a small world” attraction, which first debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair, has been a Disneyland staple — and your author’s favorite Disney attraction — for decades. However, the ride’s holiday overlay has only existed for about half that time.

Holiday Overlay

Beginning in 1997, the ride has been converted to “it’s a small world” Holiday for each year’s Christmas season. This overlay includes “Jingle Bells” and a bridge of “Deck the Halls” intermixed with the ride’s main theme, decorations, and symbols that are based on the holidays celebrated in different parts of the world. These details are added to the attraction, and there’s even a projection show on the ride’s facade.

Just in time for Christmas!

The overlay is part of Disneyland’s holiday celebrations, which also include the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay of that classic attraction, the Christmas Fantasy Parade, the Believe… In Holiday Magic fireworks show, Wintertime Enchantment at Sleeping Beauty Castle, Chip & Dale’s Ornament trail, decorations all over the park, treats, merchandise, and characters in seasonal attire. Phew — what a lineup!

Don’t forget — “it’s a small world” will be closing for its annual holiday overlay on October 30th. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the resort’s seasonal celebrations.
