Yes, Universal Is Building a New Theme Park in Texas — Here Are the 6 Lands Planned for It

Epic Universe is still very new, but we’re already looking ahead at the future of Universal theme parks!

While Universal is building a theme park resort in the United Kingdom, our focus is shifted to the U.S.-based Universal Kids Resort! This Texas theme park geared towards families with young children is slated to open in 2026 and will offer some exciting lands based on very popular IP!

Announced in 2023, Universal Kids Resort is an upcoming 32-acre theme park tailored to kids in Frisco, Texas.

The theme park will be about 1/4th the size of the Orlando parks, but it is still packing in tons of fun for the whole family! It will even feature an on-site 5-story hotel with 300 rooms that will serve as the entrance to Universal Kids Resort!

So far, Universal has confirmed 6 themed lands at the Universal Kids Resort. They are as follows:

• DreamWorks’ Shrek: This area will contain a swamp-themed playground “built personally by Shrek” where “kids can stomp, ride, laugh and play as they celebrate the magic of friendship, warmth of family and power of love.”

• Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants: This land will be based on the long-running Nickelodeon television series and will feature characters such as SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy Cheeks, and Squidward. These characters will “show guests around their neighborhood under the sea. From earning a boating license to relaxing on the beach as bubbles float by, kids and their families and friends can enjoy the nautical, nonsensical delights.”

• Illumination’s Minions: The iconic Yellow Minions are getting their own land! Here, they will attempt to rein in their Purple counterparts.

• Jurassic World: A “new adventure exclusively created for young explorers” that features kid-friendly interactions with some of the franchise’s dinosaurs. This land is expected to contain the Cretaceous Coaster.

• DreamWorks’ Trolls: A “colorful, joy-filled, and, of course, glittery fest” that will allow guests to join “Poppy, Branch and the rest of the gang to bring their voices together in harmony while shining brightly.”

• DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots: Kitty Softpaws and Perrito will host a “kitty adoption drive” featuring “fabulous decorations, sideshow games, fun rides, and festive food.” The land is also slated to offer a sensory garden where guests can relax and recharge.

While not specifically a land per se, the park’s center will offer a series of shady lawns and interactive play areas where guests can take a break, play, and indulge in an immersive retail experience featuring characters from DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse.
