NEW Permit Filed for Disney’s Grand Floridian Hotel

One of the most classic Disney World hotels is the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This gorgeous hotel, opened in 1988, is a Deluxe Resort, and has been part of many guests’ holiday traditions, seeing the massive Christmas tree and gingerbread house.

The Grand Floridian

This year, it’s going under a major renovation, and Disney just filed a new permit for the current project.

This permit was filed for a “back-of-house employee parking lot and main entrance modifications to the Grand Floridian Resort, which will connect two of the new roundabouts constructed with the separately permitted World Drive Phase 3 project.”

We’re excited for the new look lobby!

“Additionally, the entrance to the existing Wedding Pavilion parking lot will be impacted by [the World Drive Phase 3 Project] and a new driveway is being established further south.”

While this project might not be as exciting as what’s happening inside the resort, it shows that Disney is continuing to work on the exterior and trying to improve driving around the resort.

More construction

What’s happening inside? There is a new bar opening in the lobby themed to the birdcage-inspired elevator and “will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots and intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents.”

There are also refurbishments happening around the lobby, staircase, and front desk with new borders and scrollwork. The carpet is also getting an upgrade, and we’re just so excited to see all the new updates.

Because of the construction, this year, the Grand Floridian will not host its iconic gingerbread house. While we’re sad to miss the decorations this year, we know next year will be even better with all of the new details.

  1. I have visited the GF many times. Spent night with friend when her family stayed there but I have never personally had a vacation there. It’s a Dream stay but WAY OUT OF OUR BUDGET.

I’m Hoping to see Gingerbread house in 2026 during my birthday trip

  2. Still no news about reopening the Garden View Tearoom? That’s the renovation that would be really great news. Not so thrilled with the new lobby bar….unsure how that will affect the gracious, elegant ambiance in the lobby.
