Disney Reveals NEW Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Haunted Mansion Holiday Attraction

Disneyland‘s iconic Haunted Mansion Holiday ride overlay just debuted, and fans are already flocking to experience this seasonal attraction. (We’re not kidding; the wait time has been HIGH!)

Haunted Mansion Holiday!

One of our favorite things to see every year is the EPIC gingerbread house inside the attraction! It’s never the same, and now we’ve got a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like to create this year’s version of the gingerbread house.

Disney Imagineers released two new behind-the-scenes videos that show off a special look at the Haunted Mansion attraction. In one clip, Disney highlights the incredible murder of gingerbread crows in a Crow Role Call! It was very cute and really highlighted just how many crows were made for this house.

In the other video, Disney talked with head baker Jasmine on the process of creating the gingerbread house, as well as the thought that went into the design!

This year’s gingerbread house is called The Murder Most Fowl, as a group of crows is called a murder! It gives it a more ominous look, though, than a normal birdhouse, making it perfect for Haunted Mansion Holiday.

To begin the process, the team starts with approximately 200 pounds of gingerbread dough, which is used to cut out the shapes needed for their decorations, as well as the foundation of the house. Once all the gingerbread sheets are up on the house, it’s time for the details, such as the roof shingles, which are coffins and feathers! These are gingerbread cookies with fondant on top to make the detailing come to life.

Royal icing is used to apply the shingles and other details to the house, but we can’t forget about one of the coolest details — if you look at the sides of the house, you’ll notice some filigree detailing. This is all hand-done and is meant to replicate the ironwork design you see on the outside of the Haunted Mansion building itself! Plus, there are some feathers and hidden Mickeys as well.

The house itself stands 13 feet tall, took nine days to assemble and complete, and was done by a team of eight pastry chefs! There are 400 shingles on the roof, and thirteen hidden Mickeys to find throughout the whole house.

We love learning more about this incredible creation, and we’re always on the lookout for all the latest Disney news and behind-the-scenes information.
