A New Visa Integrity Fee Is Going Into Effect for Travelers – Here’s What You Need To Know

Something is changing for travelers, and if you’re heading to the United States soon, you need to know about it ASAP.

Things are changing!

We just saw a big rule change at the TSA at Orlando Airport, Southwest Airlines has been implementing lots of changes, and we keep an eye on all the latest nonstop flights, so you feel ready to fly. If you’re flying into the United States, though, you may need to adjust your budget because there’s a new visa fee to pay.

According to CNBC, a new visa integrity fee will be paid by all visitors who need nonimmigrant visas to enter the country. This is a provision of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. However, it’s possible the travelers may be able to get the fee reimbursed.

Frontier Airlines

Details about this new fee are limited at this time, which has caused some confusion and questions. We do know that the fee will be at least $250 through September 30th, 2025, and after that, it will be adjusted for inflation. The visa will be required for “all visitors who need nonimmigrant visas, which includes tourists, business travelers, and international students.” However, many travelers from Australia, Japan, and many nations in Europe may not need a visa due to the Visa Waiver Program.

Travel is almost always changing

The fee is charged when the visa is issued. This fee is also in addition to other fees, including regular visa fees, making traveling to the U.S. more expensive for many travelers. For example, the fee must be paid on top of the Form I-94 fee, which ranges from $6-$24.

American Airlines

To be reimbursed this fee, visa holders must comply with the conditions of the visa. The fee has not yet been implemented, and it’s unclear when it will be. Additionally, it’s not clear how exactly the fee will be paid.

Where are you headed in 2025?

The fee will most likely affect B visa holders the most, who are leisure and business travelers, as well as international students, who may not want to spend an extra $250 to travel to the States. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we hear more.

  1. I have been visiting the United States (and the parks!) for more than 45 years now, for a period of not more than three or four weeks at a time.
But now I’m having to put my plans on hold for until at least after 2028. Why? Sadly, things like this new visa surcharge, the idea or presumption that one is going to stay in the country illegally (I have great respect for the United States and the idea of doing things correctly and legally), the frequent comments from authorities about immigrants, including legal ones, etc., make me feel that neither I nor my family are not welcome in the country.

Who knows, maybe in a few years the attitude will change, but for now, I’ll have to look for other destinations to visit.
