4 DATES ANNOUNCED for Permanent CLOSURES Set to Hit Disney Parks

Most things truly aren’t permanent — and that includes Disney attractions.

Rivers of America

We’ve already seen a few permanent closures at the Disney Parks this year — such as the Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure, Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and much of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal KingdomUnfortunately, the list of upcoming permanent closures doesn’t stop there.

We’re sharing with you several dates to know regarding Disney Parks attraction closures all over the world. Keep in mind that Disney will inevitably provide updates and new closures, as the Parks are ever-changing.

Walt Disney World

July 7th, 2025

Coming up quickly, July 7th, 2025, marks the official closing date of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat in Magic Kingdom.

Tom Sawyer Island

You’ll be able to experience all three attractions one last time on July 6th.

Liberty Belle

This area of Magic Kingdom is being removed to make room for Piston Peak, a Cars-inspired area of Frontierland that will feature two new rides, as well as some food and beverage options.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A. will continue its total retheme as it permanently closes the Boneyard play area on September 2nd, 2025.

The Boneyard!

DinoLand is giving way to the new Pueblo Esperanza, a celebration of the Tropical Americas that draws inspiration from Disney’s Encanto and Indiana Jones. The Boneyard will be a casualty of this change.

Disney has confirmed that we can expect a NEW play area to be built within Pueblo Esperanza, maintaining the opportunity for families with little ones to burn off some energy.

We also know about some impending Disney World closures, although their dates aren’t known quite yet. Sticking with Animal Kingdom, DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will stay open in 2025, but they will eventually close for good in 2026.

DINOSAUR will be transformed into a new Indiana Jones ride.

Disneyland Resort

2026

Disneyland is undergoing a massive expansion over the next decade, which, in theory, means more additions and not a ton of subtractions. However, we already know of one expansion casualty — Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! in Disney California Adventure.

This dark ride, and a good chunk of the Hollywood Backlot area, is going to be demolished in early 2026 as it makes room for the new Avatar land in California Adventure.

The new land will be based on the sequel films of Avatar and be home to a brand-new boat ride.

We still have much to learn about the ride, but it promises to be packed with adventure.
