Magic Kingdom is changing!

Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are closing forever, Buzz Lightyear is getting a makeover, and that’s just scratching the surface. As the construction walls go up, moving around the park is about to get more complicated.
In case you’re not keeping up with every Disney detail, Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are closing on July 7th forever. They’re closing to make way for the brand-new area, Piston Peak, which is inspired by Cars.

Also on July 7th, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be changing big time! Due to all of the construction in Frontierland, including construction at the Frontierland Station, the train will change how it runs. The train will begin to run back and forth between the Fantasyland Station and the Main Street Station in a shuttle style.

We’re glad the train is switching to a shuttle style rather than closing entirely like it did when Tron was being constructed. That said, it’s about to get a lot harder to land hop in Magic Kingdom. We love using the train as an easy way to give our feet a break and to get from one place to land more easily. Especially on crowded days, the train can be an amazing break while still getting you where you need to go.

We aren’t eager to see how the crowds will shift as walls go up in the park, especially with a huge majority of Frontierland being closed starting on July 7th. Big Thunder Mountain is also currently closed for refurbishment through 2026.

Disney has already filed permits for construction related to this switch and Piston Peak construction. Currently, Disney hasn’t confirmed how long the Frontierland Station will be closed. We’re assuming it’s for the entirety of the Piston Peak Construction; however, that isn’t confirmed. Disney has also yet to give an expected opening timeline for the new area, which, frankly, has us a bit nervous.

We know that two new attractions and shopping will be coming to the area, but we’re selfishly hoping that it won’t take 6+ years like Tron did. For now, walking around Magic Kingdom shouldn’t change too drastically, but if you’re anything like us, those midday train breaks will be sorely missed. (You can still do it, it just will be much shorter and it will only offer two stops.) As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney news and updates.

How do you feel about this change? Tell us in the comments!
Too many changes all at once! You got rid if tiki birds, bear jamboree ,electric parade too much change it won’t feel like Disneyland pretty soon!🙁😢
Any change to Frontierland would be an improvement. It is a really dated area. Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean make great bookends and the pirate shopping is the best.
