CONFIRMED: New Rule That Bans Hidden Fees Is Now in Effect

One of the most annoying parts of planning a trip is checking the cost online, saving up the money, and when you go to pay for it, that’s not the actual price. There are a bunch of hidden fees that you didn’t know about, and now this vacation is more than you were thinking.

A new rule just passed that is completely CHANGING how consumers see those hidden fees.

Disney Vacation Planner

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that businesses must now include hidden fees in the listed price due to the “Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees.” This includes live-event tickets and short-term lodging.

Contemporary Resort Rooms

When you look at a price, it will be the actual price! No more guessing if you’ve budgeted enough and if the hotel or ticket is in your price range.

Disney World tickets

When you look them up, it might look like prices have increased, but in reality, this is just all of those hidden fees combined. This will especially affect concert ticket purchasing, where companies like Ticketmaster are known for their deceptive fees.

In addition to listing the actual price, they cannot use vague phrases like “service fees” or “processing fees.” Fees must be fully described.

As of right now, this is for live events and short-term lodging, which includes items similar to:

    • Concerts
    • Sporting Events
    • Theater Performances
    • Hotels
    • Inns
    • Vacation Rentals
    • Home Shares (Airbnb, etc.)
Wilderness Lodge

How will this affect your Disney World trip? If you’ve been saving for your trip, you might want to check your hotel’s prices to ensure you’re budgeting the correct amount. Again, these numbers might look higher, but they’re really a combination of all the fees.

We’re happy that all fees will be disclosed up front so we can better plan our trips. Keep following AllEars for all news affecting your Disney World trip.

  1. So this means, no more “resort fees”? There is nothing worse than thinking you’ve found a good deal only to find out the room actually costs $40 a day more than what you booked it for.
