4 Things I Wish I’d Known Before Paying for a Disney+ Subscription

Disney+ has become a massively popular – – and financially important – – part of Disney since it launched in 2019, however, the streaming service is far from perfect.

From issues with the structure of the app itself to missing content and holes in the Disney library, potential Disney+ subscribers should know about these issues before deciding if they wish to subscribe.

Incomplete

One of the biggest issues that some Disney+ subscribers have with the service is that, despite the massive amount of content present on the app, there are still many gaps in the Disney library. One of the more notable current omissions is the popular early 00s series House of Mouse.

In addition to series and films that are missing entirely, there are some episodes missing from series that are on Disney+, usually for content reasons. These include outings from The Simpsons, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, TailSpin, The Muppet Show, Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, DuckTales, Smart Guy, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Fantastic Four, The Little Mermaid, and Andi Mack.

Missing Extras

In addition to the aforementioned missing series and episodes, many Disney+ subscribers are irritated at the lack of preexisting bonus features missing from the service. This includes documentaries and commentary tracks (we’re looking at you The Simpsons) previously available on DVD and Blu-Ray releases. While some films do include a few bonus features, they’re a drop in the bucket compared to all those still sitting in Disney’s vaults.

Not-So Family Friendly

Moving from content that’s not on Disney+ to content that is, some subscribers are upset with the fact that Disney’s streaming service doesn’t adequately separate less family-friendly content, especially when combined with Hulu.

The Interface

Finally, some users found the service’s user interface a bit clunky to deal with. Now credit where it’s due, Disney has improved the user experience since the app launched nearly six years ago, however, it still seems to lag behind similar offerings from other studios.
