Great news, theme park fans! A NEW theme park project is in the works. This proposed park is the first Universal-branded theme park in the UK and Europe. That’s right — Universal is coming to the United Kingdom!

Universal hopes to bring “thrilling rides, innovative attractions and exciting entertainment” to the UK, and initial resort plans also feature a 500-room hotel and a retail, dining and entertainment complex. Now, we have NEW concept art to share — come with us to take a look!
Universal Destinations & Experiences announced that it intends to build and operate the first-ever theme park and resort in the United Kingdom. The park will be located in Bedford, though the project is pending planning consent approvals. Here’s a peek at the NEW concept art!

Construction has not started in Bedford, but Universal confirmed that a planning proposal will be submitted to the Government with a projected construction start date in 2026.

In terms of new attractions, Universal has not revealed any plans. Universal stated, “We recognise the tremendous excitement our theme parks and destinations bring; however, it is too early in the process to know the possibilities of featured attractions and experiences.”

Universal’s new Bedford location was chosen due to its convenient rail links to London and London Luton Airport. The East West Rail (EWR) project could also bring additional transport to the area, adding to the existing railway between Bletchley and Bedford. According to Universal, the site was selected because “it has the size and flat topography that is important for a large-scale theme park resort.”

Universal first confirmed plans to open a UK theme park back in December 2023, but this new concept art indicates the project is one step closer to taking shape. The new proposed park could pump close to £50 billion into the UK economy over its construction phase and the first 20 years of operation. Building a new theme park would also bring about 20,000 new jobs.
