Disney World food is what I do, especially when it comes to vegan dishes around the resort.

While I consider myself an expert on all things vegan around Disney World, I’m also with my non-vegan coworkers enough to feel I’ve got a pretty good handle on food as a whole that you’ll find around Disney World. When I’m in Disney Springs, AKA home of some of the best dining you’ll find in the resort, and I’m looking to splurge, THIS is where I go, but I’ll warn you now, it is a genuine splurge for a quick service dining location!
eet by Maneet Chauhan is a modern, Indian-inspired concept that’s newer to Disney Springs when compared to most other restaurants. It was created by Maneet Chauhan, acclaimed James Beard Award-winning chef and Food Network Star, and the AllEars team has enjoyed it thoroughly since it opened.

While this is a quick service restaurant, there’s one particular reason that makes me feel like this is CERTAINLY more of a table service experience — the price.

I stopped in for a quick lunch at eet the other day and got the Build Your Own Bowl ($19.95) and a fountain drink ($4.95). The bowl itself is already expensive, but the real issue is what happens at checkout and how you get your food.

At the register, you’re staring at a tipping screen with a Cast Member watching. And knowing that someone will bring my food, bring my silverware, and clear my table, I can’t tip less than 20% — it’s just not in my constitution (I guess it’s called guilt). So after tip and tax, my pseudo quick-service meal is $31.50, when I usually pay $18.50 for the same kind of meal somewhere else.

eet’s business model seems to depend on tipping, maybe to make up for lower wages, or maybe it’s a great place to work where tips are just a bonus. Either way, I have to ask myself: Do I want to spend this much on lunch? Or should I just go to Earl of Sandwich, where the food is cheaper and they’re not putting a tip screen in my face while they watch what I select?

Now, the food is definitely better at eet than other locations, but eating here feels like a splurge, exactly like eating at a table-service restaurant, when it’s not necessarily presented that way. Again, I know no one is forcing me to tip, but knowing that someone is going to bring my food and silverware out to me, as well as clear my table, I can’t let that hard work go unappreciated.

What I’m saying is, do I recommend eating at eet? Absolutely, but know that it’ll be more of a splurge than what you’ll find at other quick service locations around Disney Springs.
