Over the last decade-plus, streaming has completely transformed the entertainment landscape, changing how viewers engage with entertainment and how studios market said entertainment. In this new era, catalog titles — some even decades old — often top viewership charts, surpassing much newer or “hotter” series and films.

Those trends are on full display in 2024’s most streamed television shows and films, with one of TV’s longest-running programs — Grey’s Anatomy — being the #2 most-streamed show in the country. These lists break down the Top 10 Overall Streaming Programs and Top 10 Streaming Movies of the year, using Nielson data to rank them via total number of minutes viewed (in billions.)
Disney dominated the top of the streaming programs chart, having control of the top four slots. The clear winner was the Australian series Bluey, streamed on Disney+, which saw 55.62 billion minutes streamed. The next three spots all belonged to Disney-owned series which stream on the company-owned Hulu service.

As mentioned above, the long-running (to put it mildly) ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy (which also streams on Netflix) saw 47.85 billion minutes watched. Next were two animated series that Disney acquired through their Fox acquisition: Family Guy (42.44 billion minutes) and Bob’s Burgers (36.80 billion minutes). The rest of the list includes NCIS, Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory, Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds, and SpongeBob Squarepants.

Disney also had a major presence on the Top 10 Streaming Movies list, including the top slot with Moana (13.03 minutes), Encanto at #6 (6.61 billion minutes), Frozen at #7 (6.28 billion minutes), and Inside Out at #9 (5.78 billion minutes). The rest of the list was rounded out by the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Red One (the only non-animated film in the top 10), Trolls Band Together, Minions, Paw Patrol: The Movie, and The Boss Baby.

Disney had a large presence on the lists of most streamed programs and most streamed films of 2024 in the United States. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the entertainment industry.
