Universal Orlando has spent the last year rolling out bigger and bolder entertainment offerings at its theme parks. Not only did we get the biggest daytime parade in Universal Orlando history, but Universal also debuted a brand-new nighttime show. However, if you’re visiting Universal Orlando soon and are planning to see that new nighttime spectacular, it may look a little different going forward.

Universal Studios in Orlando hosts a new nighttime show, CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular, and it has been a popular attraction. Throughout the 22-minute show, spectators are invited to relive movie moments from popular films and franchises, including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Trolls, Shrek, Jurassic World, and even a few nostalgic classics like Jaws.

It’s an impressive show that also brings together incredible high-powered water fountains, a few pyrotechnics, projections, and synchronized drones that transform into popular characters. This show takes place nightly just before the park comes to a close.

However, according to a report from Fox 35, Universal Orlando has made the decision to pause the drone portion of the new show until further notice. While Universal did not comment on the reason for the drone change, it may have to do with a recent drone accident in Orlando. In the tragic incident, a falling drone injured a young boy at Lake Eola Park. A company spokesperson has stated that “guests can still enjoy the show nightly at Universal Studios Florida.”

While it is likely that this decision was made in the interest of visitor safety, Universal Orlando is not the only company that has canceled its drone show in the area. Spectrum News 13 also reported that Orlando World Center Marriott “canceled several nights of drone shows” which were scheduled from December 25th through the 30th.

The drones contracted for the Orlando World Center Marriott and Lake Eola shows came from a company named Sky Elements. Local news station WESH also reported that Sky Elements (which is a Texas-based company and America’s Got Talent finalist) is now being investigated by both the  National Transportation Safety Administration and Federal Aviation Administration after several drones collided during the show at Lake Eola.

So, for now, if you’re planning to finish out your night at Universal Studios in Orlando to enjoy CineSational, you still can see the show in its entirety, though the show will not use any drones. We’ll be certain to update you again if there is further change to Universal’s show in the future.
