Mickey Beignets at Disneyland

These pillowy treats are some of the best at the Disney Resorts and are a staple snack, especially at the Disneyland Resort. There’s an argument to be made that beignets are the most popular dessert at Disneyland, and if you want to snag one (or one hundred), there are some tips and unspoken rules you should know about before spending your hard-earned cash.

Before buying beignets at Disneyland, you should know about these seven tips and tricks!

The Best / Freshest Beignets Are In Downtown Disney

Look, the beignets you’ll find in Disneyland Park are tasty and worth getting, but if you want the undisputed champions, head over to the Downtown Disney District and make a pit-stop at Beignets Expressed.

Beignets Expressed

This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant is attached to the Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio and serves up all kinds of delicious beignets and beverages. You can watch your beignets get made and you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.

Do Beignets Dream About Me?

Beignets Expressed offers classic powdered and even glazed variations in addition to several different flavors, seasonal offerings, and dipping sauces — so every visit can be a unique experience. Beignets come in several different quantity packs, and you can even mix and match flavors!

The Earlier, the Better at Beignets Expressed

The best beignets being at Beignets Expressed is a poorly kept secret at this point. Fans flock to the restaurant and lines can get pretty long.

Beignets Expressed

If you’re craving a late-night snack and want a beignet, you won’t be the only one. Lines can get long here, especially towards the end of the night. We recommend dropping  by earlier in the day if you want the quickest experience possible.

You’ll very rarely find it this empty

If you’re set on waiting until the evening, do know that the Beignets Expressed employees work very hard to move the line at a decent pace, so your wait won’t be tremendously long — just plan on bringing some patience with you.

Know How Magic Key Discounts Work at Beignets Expressed

Staying at Beignets Expressed, Magic Key (Disneyland’s annual passholder program) discounts work at the restaurant, but there is a catch.

Beignets

Magic Key holders at every tier can get 10% off at this restaurant, but they have to buy their beignets at a specific time. Magic Key discounts are eligible Monday through Friday before 4PM. After that time or on the weekends, you’re paying full price. Discounts exclude alcohol, tax, tip, major holidays, and private events.

Menu

Discounts also cannot exceed $50, so don’t plan on a major deal if you decide to buy Beignets Expressed out of their goods.

Take Advantage of Mobile Order

Beignets Expressed isn’t the only beignet shop that garners a line. Over at Disneyland Park, Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square is a hotspot for Mickey-shaped beignets and mint juleps. It’s often got a long line that can be intimidating, especially since the restaurant is just a window and located in a tight space.

Mint Julep Bar in Disneyland

While you can’t guarantee getting your beignets fast at Mint Julep Bar, you don’t have to waste your time in line. You can order beignets on the Disneyland app and do something else besides standing and waiting until they’re ready.

Seasonal Peach Beignets

Another perk of using the mobile app is getting a better look at seasonal offerings. The seasonal menu isn’t super apparent at the Mint Julep Bar location, but it is plain as day on the app, so if you ever want a good look at the full menu, the app is the way to go.

Tiana’s Palace Offers Different Beignets

Although they’re literally connected, the beignets you’ll find at Tiana’s Palace are different than the ones you’ll see at Mint Julep Bar.

These beignets are closer in style to the ones at Beignets Expressed and we’ve quickly become big fans.

Classic Beignets

There are some other notable differences as well. The classic beignets here feature a honey drizzle and you’ll also be able to order house-filled beignets. These tasty desserts change in flavor depending on the season, but we’ve seen lemon flavors as well as ones with strawberry cream filling with a strawberry glaze.

Make Beignets at Home

If you want Disneyland beignets at home, that’s totally possible! You can pick up a beignet mix at places like Eudora’s Chic Boutique in Disneyland Park where pick up a mix from the famous Cafe Du Monde. If you’re obsessed with the beignets at Beignets Expressed, they sell mixes on location as well.

Want to make Mickey beignets from scratch? Check out the recipe below!

***This recipe will create about 10 large beignets or 2 dozen small beignets.***

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar

Steps

  1. Sprinkle the yeast into a bowl full of warm water and stir to dissolve. Let stand for 5 minutes
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, salt, heavy cream, egg, flour, and bowling water.
  3. Add in the yeast mixture to your large bowl.
  4. Use an electric mixer with a dough hook attachment to mix the dough on medium speed until combined and smooth.
  5. Let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Roll the dough out to quarter-inch thickness. Use a Mickey Mouse-shaped cutter to cut your beignets, or cut into 2.5 to 3-inch squares.
  7. Cover the cut dough with a towel and let rise in a warm, draft-free area until it doubles in size. This should be about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  8. Heat 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit in a deep pot over medium-high heat. Fry the beignets until golden brown, turning as they brown on each side. This should take about 2 to 3 minutes each.
  9. Remove carefully with tongs and place on a paper towel to drain.
  10. Dust the warm beignets with powdered sugar and enjoy!

Now you never have to be without beignets!

Shake the Bag!

This is a total Disneyland-er tip, but when you get your beignets in a bag, a lot of the powdered sugar will be at the bottom of the bag. Give the bag a good shake before eating the beignets to coat them in all that powdered sugar! Trust us, you’ll be thanking us for this tip!

  1. These are donuts not beignets. Wdw French Quarter used to serve authentic beignets and they were amazing. Just got back from our trip staying there and they are now donut in texture. They are good just not a true beignet.
