When it comes down to it, we really love Disney for all their stories, right?
I mean, they’re classics for a reason. I think we can all remember that moment when we saw any of our favorite characters come on screen for the first time. But here’s the thing, Disney has a habit of trying to keep tapping into all that nostalgia time and time and time again. That’s why we when we keep seeing live-action movie adaption after live-action movie adaption, we’re wondering if it’s too much now. So we thought we’d reach out to you and get your takes.
We reached out to our followers on Facebook and Instagram to ask: “What do you REALLY think about Disney’s live-action movie adaptions?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s go over some of your top responses!
“The Originals Are Classics—Why Mess With That?”
Our reader Ken kicked off the conversation by getting straight to the point: “Other than to create box office draws, I don’t see the point really, the original animation films are classics, why mess with that, even if it’s live action.”
It’s a sentiment that many of you share. Disney’s animated classics are iconic for their artistry, storytelling, and charm. The idea of replacing these beloved films, or even just reinterpreting them, feels unnecessary to a lot of die-hard fans.
“It’s an Easy NO for Me.”
Carrie didn’t hold back, sharing, “It’s an easy NO for me. I stopped after Aladdin and I had to force myself to watch that one. I am not a fan of remakes, the animations are classics for a reason. Create new content.”
Carrie’s comment really struck a chord with a bunch of you. Many of you asked why spend time and resources on redoing something that doesn’t need fixing when Disney could focus on creating new magic?
Christy echoed this, suggesting that remakes and sequels are more of a safety net for Disney than a bold creative leap. “They have to do re-makes and sequels because no one wants their newer original stories, which should tell them something about the quality of the stories, but they always blame the audience and go back to the easy money.”
The Creative Edge Debate
Some of you, like Joel, took a critical stance on what these remakes say about Disney’s creative direction: “Remakes and sequels in general are not a good example of artistic expression. They prove that a studio has nothing new to offer and has lost its creative edge.”
This comment definitely sparked a broader discussion about Disney’s priorities. For Joel and others of you, the remakes feel like an attempt to cash in on nostalgia rather than a genuine effort to push storytelling forward.
Not All Doom and Gloom
But it wasn’t all negative. While many readers are over the live-action remake trend, others see some silver linings. For example, Joyce shared a more nuanced view: “I liked Beauty and Aladdin and felt they were great remakes to live action. I did not consider Mulan to be a live action remake. It did not have music and deviated the story….but I enjoyed the movie.”
Similarly, Dara pointed out a few hits among the misses: “They’re all hit or miss. I really liked Beauty and the Beast. And absolutely loved Cruella.” For those of you like Joyce and Dara, the issue isn’t that the remakes exist, it’s that they’re inconsistent. A great remake can add depth and dimension to a story, but too often, they fall short of the originals.
“I Wish They’d Focus on Something New”
Another recurring theme was the longing for originality. Alice summed it up perfectly: “I wish they would put the effort into more original stories. I’m tired of seeing the same things get remade, I’d like something new that isn’t Marvel.”
This desire for fresh, innovative content resonated deeply with a lot of you in the comments. While nostalgia is a powerful force, many of you feel that Disney has the creative resources to explore new horizons, and that doing so could absolutely rekindle the magic for a new generation.

What do you REALLY think about Disney’s live-action movie adaptions? Tell us all about it down in the comments!
The easy road is to make re-make these movies. Animation from Walt to Pixar is difficult, but the potential to create any world or situation is attractive to children & adults alike. Source material shouldn’t be an issue, but even if it was creativity has the hallmark of Disney.
Just like the parks being transformed into one giant IP show, so are the films. The drive for earnings and exec bonuses comes at the price of fans.
Disney’s focus is on revenue and DEI. They’ve lost a lot of their creativity, and ability to tell a good story. It’s sad, that’s what made them great.
I can say I have not seen any of the live actions except for Tarzan. Which I loved the animation film but I loved the live action for other reasons. I feel that if you don’t have the creativity needed to create new films and experiences you should not be a Disney worker at all. In any part of the parks. I feel that Walt Elias Disney would not be happy with the way they have honestly been promoting his name and life’s dream he worked so hard on. I am a hard core Disney fan and I still am but for the old imagineers and not today’s so called imagineers. I am not a fan of Marvel at all. They should really go back and read up on the quotes and expectations Walt had for his dream for Walt Disney World.
If there are any real imagineers remaining, I wish they would imagine new stories. It really doesn’t take any imagination to remake something. If they aren’t able to imagine profitable storylines, they should do one of the following; replace the imagineers or sell off that part of the business or rename that group of people to “remakers”.
I’m not a fan of the live action animation films. The Pirates of the Caribbean films were different. Disney lacks original thought. They are very consumed with WOKE, so they are santizing past films. Nobody wants to see that. Nobody will be lining up for Snow White–the movie that made sure little people would not get a job (using animated little people instead).
I’m not a big fan of dome of the remakes. My biggest concern is that Disney would get back to what was behind making them great and that was real Family values. The classics promoted that but they’ve been getting farther from that with some of the new films and decisions they’ve been making. It’s been disappointing.
I liked Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. Cinderella for the great Cate Blanchette.
I LOVED Maleficent. It was a different tale but still told the Sleeping Beauty tale.
Never watched Aladdin live action – no Robin Williams. 😢
Never watched Mulan when I heard no Mushu.
As far as Cinderella stories go my favorite is actually the non-Disney movie Ever After.
I’ll watch Moana live action when it comes out just because I LOVED Lin-Manual Miranda’s songs and Dwayne Johnson.
Can Lin-Manuel Miranda and Elton John write all Disney movie songs? That would work for me. 😁
