The world of streaming is ROUGH out there right now for many shows.

In fact, many streaming services are canceling shows after only one season, or even worse, canceling shows before they get the chance to air. Netflix just confirmed another popular show has been canceled, and we have the details.
The Hollywood Reporter has just announced that Dead Boy Detectives, a show set in the same universe as The Sandman, has been canceled after one season on Netflix. The show follows two deceased teen boys who work as detectives for supernatural clientele until a witch complicates their plans.

The show, created by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions, was originally being developed to air on Max. A pilot was ordered back in 2021, and the show received a series order the following year. However, after a shakeup at Warner Bros. and DC, as the show is based on characters from the comics written by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner), the show moved to Netflix in February 2023 and premiered 14 months later.

What’s interesting about this cancelation is that the show received largely positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Not only that, but it racked up 9.6 million views and also ended up on Netflix’s internal top 10 for English-language series for three weeks AND ranked on Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series twice.

So if it was so popular, why the cancelation? The truth is that we may never know. Netflix didn’t share any details about the cancelation, but there’s always the slim possibility it could be sold to another streamer and renewed for that second season after all.
