DON’T PANIC If This Monorail Problem Happens to You in Disney World

Disney World is certainly magical, but sometimes, less than magical things happen — that’s just reality.

For example, Florida weather is notoriously finicky, and random thunderstorms can pop up and close a lot of rides (and get you soaked). Sometimes rides get closed, either for refurbishment or because of technical issues. Sometimes, Disney World transportation has problems, too. Today, we were riding the Monorail, and let’s just say something unexpected happened.

We were riding the Resort Monorail today in Disney World and pulled into the Magic Kingdom station. Then the power went off. As in, the Monorail went dark and nothing was working, including the air conditioning. Although our instinct was to go into immediate panic mode, we took a few deep breaths and waited to see if we could find out what was going on.

Interior lighting is off

A few minutes passed and then the power came back on and the Monorail continued its journey. We learned from a Cast Member that this was just a reset for the Monorail while it was pulled into the Magic Kingdom station. Everything was turned back on, the a/c kicked in and within a few minutes, people were boarding and we were on our way again.

Waiting…

So, basically, this was just a normal thing that happens often. So, if you find yourself sitting on the Monorail and it’s pulled into a station and the power goes off, don’t panic. It’s just probably the Monorail being reset. If you’re waiting for the Monorail and notice this, you’ll probably only have to wait a few more minutes before you’re allowed to board.

However, there have been occasions where the Monorail has had technical issues, and when that happens, you’ll want to pay attention to Cast Members who will direct you on how to evacuate. If the Monorail goes down, you’ll be able to get alternate transportation on a Disney bus. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen from time to time. Disney is well-prepared for any issues as they arise.
