“I wish I had gone easier on us during our first trip!” – The Poor Unfortunate Souls Who Made the Ultimate Hotel Mistake in Disney World

We just can’t get enough of the hotels at Disney World, right?

Wilderness Lodge

It makes sense! The theming is incredible, you can’t beat the accessibility, and don’t even get us started on the resort restaurants. There are so many reasons to love spending time in the Disney World resorts on property. That got us thinking about any “mistakes” we’ve ever made at these hotels, which is why we wanted to find out your thoughts on the matter! We asked, and you delivered!

We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Have you had any regrets (or mistakes you’ve made) when staying at a Disney World resort hotel?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!

What do you think?

Now, let’s go over some of your top responses!

Leaving the Hotel

First up, the vast majority of you have strong feelings about how much you regret the end of your stay at Disney World. (The majority of you responded this way.)

Coronado Springs Resort

Here’s what you said:

  •  “Yes, leaving.”
  • “Not staying longer”
  • “Not booking more days. I always hate to leave.”
  • “My only regret is not staying there longer.”
  • “Not staying long enough! You’re so focused on the parks that you run out of time to spend at the resort!”

Listen, we hear you loud and clear on this and we feel the same way! There’s just something (shall we say magical) about staying at the Disney World hotels and how much we’d love to call them home.

Not Taking Full Advantage of the Resort

Next up, you clearly have strong feelings when it comes to not having taken full advantage of the resorts. (The next largest percentage of you responded this way.)

Port Orleans French Quarter

Here’s what you said:

  • “I regret not going back midday for a break this last trip. Three of us really needed the midday break.”
  • “I wish I had gone easier on us during our first trip! It was go go go from the second we scanned in.”
  • “I don’t think I get my full value out of it as I usually exhaust myself at the parks. So, my room is my crash pad. I like the convenience though.”
  • I would say not having enough time to explore the different amenities at the hotels. Would love to see one of the movies under the stars, roast some marshmallows, and try some of their signature restaurants.”
  • “Not taking advantage of the wonderful resort features”
  • “Not giving myself enough resort time!”

Listen, we’ll be the first to tell you that you are completely right here. When you stay at a Disney hotel, it’s like you have to make a conscious decision to make the most of every moment there, and that can be tough especially if you’re not a local and coming from a distance. You’re faced with a tough decision on where to spend the majority of your time — the parks or the hotel.

Not Getting a Preferred Room at Caribbean Beach

Last up, this is one that if you’ve experienced it, is like a source of collective trauma — not getting a preferred room at Caribbean Beach Resort and having the longest walk of your life anywhere. (The next largest percentage of you responded this way.)

Caribbean Beach Resort

Here’s what you said:

  • “Will never stay at Caribbean again! We were in the middle of everything so near nothing. The walking back to the room from the Skyliner was the longest walk ever.”
  • “I don’t have any regrets. However, I always see people complain about Caribbean Beach. We stayed and loved it! I think the key is getting a preferred room. We were so close to the lobby, pool and Sebastian’s. And the Riviera Skyliner was just a hop skip & a jump!”

Your last comment there is so key. Caribbean Beach is HUGE, and if you’re not careful, you might find yourself staying in the dead center of it and be faced with a MASSIVE walk to any of the amenities, which is tough since the resort is otherwise lovely.

  1. I don’t get the comments about CBR. The preferred rooms are only close to Port Royale where the main resort restaurants and pool are but farthest from the Skyliner stations. If you get the right building in Jamaica or Aruba, you can get the best of both worlds in a standard room. Not a terrible walk to Port Royale while still by the Skyliner stations. If anything the standard rooms in CBR are the best value for any standard room in any moderate resort because of its close proximity to the Skyliner stations.
