Universal Orlando Just WON the Internet AGAIN With Its Latest Jab at Disney World ?

Get ready to party like it’s 1999 because one of Universal Orlando’s theme parks just hit a major milestone (and we can officially call them an adult now).

We’ve had lots of big news coming out of Universal Orlando lately. The theme park has been dropping new announcements for original concepts for its upcoming Halloween Horror Nights, hosting annual passholder previews for its newest revamped land, and even teasing new entertainment and experiences that are coming soon to both Universal Studios AND Islands of Adventure. But, now’s the time to celebrate because Islands of Adventure’s next major milestone is just beginning!

We hope you’ve kept those celebratory party horns and hats because you’re going to need them ASAP! Since its debut in May 1999, Universal’s second theme park, Islands of Adventure, has been thrilling its visitors for over two decades. Two and a half now, to be exact!

The adventure begins!

That’s right! The adventure-filled park is turning the big 2-5 and, of course, in their typical fashion, they’ve taken to social media to mark the occasion (and to take a little jab at their competitors down the street while they’re at it). Islands of Adventure decided the best way to mark their 25th anniversary was to post a photo on their social media accounts featuring the park’s iconic stone lighthouse that welcomes its visitors into the park right dab in the center of a giant, multi-layer birthday cake. Oh, and it’s also flanked on each side with silver 2-5 balloons on sticks. Their only caption read “Partying since 1999,” and we couldn’t think of anything more fitting.

Yep, the top of the lighthouse served as its own single candle flame. If this joke totally missed you, allow us to help you out. For Disney World’s 25th anniversary, Disney decided to turn the iconic Cinderella Castle into a gigantic pink cake with gummy decorations and fluffy frosting which people promptly called atrocious and deemed the months-long transformation as the “cake castle” for decades beyond. Are we picking up on the tongue-in-cheek joke, now? Good!

We hope Islands of Adventure had a great birthday celebrating entering their mid-20s (because it’s all downhill from here)! No matter your feelings on the cheeky joke, it’s nice to know that Universal doesn’t seem to take itself so seriously and can still poke fun at something so offhand (even if it’s at someone else’s expense).
