Wands at the ready! It’s time to head on over to the Universal Orlando Resort!

We wouldn’t blame you if you felt that Universal Orlando is getting all the attention these days (you’re not wrong) with all the Epic Universe updates and all. So, while we’re properly hyped for all things Universal, we thought we’d talk a bit about the Wizarding World and go over some unspoken rules you should know about so that you’re ready for your next visit!
As we were saying, let’s go ahead and say there are some unspoken rules you might not know you’re breaking when you visit the Wizarding World at Universal Orlando. And that’s not what we want for you! You’ve got to have the best time ever, so let’s break ’em down, shall we?
We’re going to rapid-fire these ones, so strap in!
Bring Your Dramamine
First things first. If you’re prone to motion sickness or just in general have a sensitive stomach when it comes to getting on rides, trust me, you’re going to want to have some Dramamine stashed away in your bag.

Since you’ve got a lot of rides to experience like Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, do yourself a favor and make sure you bring that motion sickness medicine. They can get pretty wild!
Try the Test Seats
Next, for the love of all that is Harry Potter, you’re going to want to make sure you try out the test seats before you get on the ride for the first time.

With all the different ride systems out there, you don’t want to just assume that you’re going to fit. It only takes a second or so to make sure that you’ll be comfy and safe to enjoy the ride ahead.
You’re Going to Have to Ditch the Robe
Now, I know you’ve been dreaming about wearing your wizard robe all day for as long as you can remember, but I hate to break it to you that if you want to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and wear that robe, you’ve got another thing coming.

So, the short of it is that if you want to ride the motorbike, you’ve got to ditch the robe. You’ll either have to ride in the sidecar OR have your sidecar partner wear it for you. Sorry to dash your dreams, but I’d rather you know now, rather than later.
It’s a Single-Rider Line For a Reason
While we’re on the topic of rides, there’s one thing you have to know. If the line say’s “Single Rider” it’s a single-rider line.

Please, again oh please, don’t go in the single-rider line with your entire family/party and then get mad when you can’t ride together. That line is there to help things move smoothly. Just please don’t be THAT GROUP. Let’s be considerate. Cool?
Pour It Out Beforehand
Here’s the thing. No one likes spilling their drink, right? Also, you can imagine that it’s going to be a bit difficult to make sure your drink stays in its cup while you’re hurtling around a track, right?

So, let’s make sure that before you get on a ride that doesn’t require lockers, go ahead and pour that drink out of your reusable cup. In fact, you might as well pour it out even if you’re going to put it in a locker. Better safe than sorry.
Look Up!
Next, this one’s a quickie that basically goes for every shop you enter. Look up!

Seriously, there are SO many details that are hidden in each of the shops. You really don’t want to miss out on all the magic by having your head down or staring at your phone.
It’s All In How You Say It
If you’ve ever been to Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World, you know that the Cast Members in that land speak a little differently than they do in other parts of the park. That’s kind of the same thing that happens here in this Harry Potter land.

Our advice would be to have fun and try to answer the Team Members back in correct wizarding language. You’ll enjoy the experience just that much more!
What’s a Soda?
A quick head’s up for you: If you’ve got a souvenir cup and want to refill it at one of the restaurants, don’t go hunting for those sodas in the Wizarding World. You won’t find ’em!

While you’re in the land, your options are mainly water, tea, lemonade, and butterbeer. Just go for the butterbeer!
There’s More Than One Way
While we’re on the topic of butterbeer, we want to make it known that there is NO wrong way to enjoy butterbeer. In fact, you have our permission to have more than one favorite way.

You can have it hot, cold, frozen, fudge, etc. The point is, have a blast and enjoy it! Also, if you just happen to be there from March 15th to April 30th, 2024, it’s officially Butterbeer Season in Universal Orlando.

There are going to be all sorts of unique Butterbeer treats like an ice lolly, new caramels, and cold and frozen Butterbeer available in a collectible silver stein, so definitely take part in the festivities and enjoy!
Remember to Use the Right Ingredients
Lastly, just a word of advice for all you aspiring potion masters: when you’re brewing up a Polyjuice potion, make sure you don’t use a random hair from a classmate’s robe. You never know what kind of chaos might ensue from that!

Let us know some of your unspoken rules when visiting the Wizarding World at Universal Orlando in the comments below!
I had a family in front of me that made a fuss about wanting to ride Forbidden Journey together even though they were in the single rider line. The Universal team member just pointed at me and said, “your turn!” And I rushed right past the family to my seat. 🙂
