We’re heading into Spring Break season, and that means travelers are going to be absolutely packing the major tourist destinations.

Airports will be busy with full flights, theme parks will have long wait times for rides, and cruise ships will be stuffed with travelers hoping to relax and get away for a few days. But if you’re heading to Mexico for Spring Break, we have a warning for you.
The US Embassy has released a warning for travelers going to Mexico soon. There are a few things you need to take note of before your vacation.

Here are some things the US Embassy thinks you should consider before traveling to Mexico:
- Crime — Violent crime can occur anywhere in Mexico, including popular tourist destinations. You should exercise increased caution in downtown areas of popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum, especially after dark.
- Drugs — Drug possession and drug use, including medical marijuana, is illegal in Mexico.
- Unregulated alcohol — Unregulated alcohol may be contaminated, and US citizens have been reported injured or have become unconscious after consuming tainted alcohol.
- Pharmaceuticals — Counterfeit medication is common in Mexico.
- Sexual Assault — US citizens have been victims of sexual assault while on vacation. Perpetrators may target isolated individuals or use drugs.
- Drowning — Some beaches have strong currents and riptides.
- Medical Emergencies — Private hospital charges in Mexico can be higher than those in the United States.
- Guns and Ammunition — All guns and ammunition are illegal in Mexico. Possession could result in jail time.

If you’re heading to Mexico soon, these are some things to keep in mind. For the full list of warnings, make sure to visit the US Embassy website. For anyone traveling to a foreign country this vacation season, make sure to be vigilant, follow local laws, and stay safe!
