Orlando Airport Announces NEW $10 Million Project to IMPROVE Parking

A lot of us who visit Disney World are very familiar with the Orlando International Airport.

Orlando Airport Terminal C

Recently, we’ve seen some big updates at the airport, including the brand-new Terminal C. The airport also now has MCO Reserve, a service that allows you to reserve a time to go through a shorter TSA security line. Now, the airport is getting another update.

Parking at the Orlando International Airport is about to change. We previously told you about how reserved parking will be coming to the airport soon, but ANOTHER parking change is also on the way. According to Spectrum News 13, the airport is working on adding a parking guidance system. Basically, the system would display parking lots that are currently open with red and green lights to indicate occupied and open parking spaces.

Sound familiar? If you’ve ever parked in one of the parking garages in Disney Springs, you may have seen this type of technology at work!

The Board that oversees the airport has approved plans to begin the nearly $10 million project. “The value of this procurement is estimated at $9,600,000 for software, hardware, installation, commissioning, warranty, and seven years of support and maintenance,” the airport said in a release. “The contract is scheduled to be awarded in June 2024.”

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board also recently approved a five-year contract with Allied Universal Security Service for Curbside Traffic Management Services to add additional staff to help with traffic flow at the terminal curbs.

This, combined with reserved parking, should make finding a parking spot at the airport a lot easier for those who need to drive to the airport.

The airport itself is also expanding: in October 2023, The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority approved a $1.09 million contract to expand the new Terminal C and more than double the number of gates at the terminal. We can’t wait to see all these changes take shape!
