We love how easy it is to watch our favorite shows on Disney+…but we DON’T enjoy it when said shows get canceled.
Disney has also taken to removing some of these shows from their platform completely, making them much harder to find and watch. But how many series have Disney really canceled this year? We’re breaking it down for you here!
The Wonder Years
The most recent cancelation is of The Wonder Years over on ABC.
This show has two seasons but has been canceled before its third. It’s a reboot of a popular 1988 show of the same name but with a different twist. While the show’s popularity did decline from when it began, we know fans of this series are sad to see it go.
The Nautilus
In late August, Disney announced that The Nautilus, a series detailing the origin story of Captain Nemo, had been canceled.
If this show doesn’t sound familiar, that’s because it wasn’t even out on the platform yet! The whole show had been filmed as a 10-part live-action series and Disney acquired the rights 2 years ago, but now are not planning to bring it to the Disney+ platform. They are, however, trying to help find the show a new home.
The Spiderwick Chronicles
Another show meeting an unfortunate fate before it could even begin is the book-to-TV series adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles.
The show is also being shopped around to other streamers to see if they’re interested in making it for the screen instead.
Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.
At the same time as The Spiderwick Chronicles announcement, Disney revealed that Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. would not be renewed for a third season.
This show was another reboot, inspired by the 1989-1993 ABC sitcom Doogie Howser, M.D., and followed Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha as she worked on balancing a budding medical career as a 16-year-old girl.
National Treasure: Edge of History
In April, Disney announced that National Treasure: Edge of History would not be returning for a second season.
This TV series follows treasure hunter Jess Venezuela who sets out on an adventure with her friends to find a centuries-old treasure that is possibly connected to her father.
Big Shot
Back in February, Disney announced that it would be canceling Big Shot before its third season.
The story follows a men’s basketball coach who is ousted from the NCAA due to his temperamental nature and ends up coaching girls at an elite private high school.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers
At the same time, it was revealed that The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers would also be canceled.
This series was a follow-up to the 1992 film, and we know many fans were sad to see it go.
The Mysterious Benedict Society
Lastly, the earliest cancelation in 2023 was The Mysterious Benedict Society, inspired by a book series.
This series received 2 seasons but was canceled before its third could head into the writers’ room.
We could still see more cancelations as the year continues, so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney news!
