Proof That Even DISNEY WORLD Has Rough Mornings

If you’re going to Disney World, there is a LOT you’ll need to prepare for.

Welcome to Disney World

From making your Park Pass Reservations and finding the latest hotel deals and discounts to researching the ins and outs of Genie+ — it can be overwhelming! Even if you have all of these things under control there’s still another thing you might not be expecting that you NEED to know about — ride closures.

Occasionally, Disney closes rides for refurbishment on a schedule, so preparing for these is fairly easy. However, rides can suddenly and unexpectedly close during your trip due to technical problems. This can throw a wrench in your day if you aren’t aware of this possibility, so it’s important to keep these in mind!

Closed

We’ve seen all kinds of rides closed over the past few months, but today Disney was having a particularly difficult time with rides. This morning, we noticed that FIVE main attractions were down at the same time: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Sometimes ride closures like these will only last a few minutes. But other times, they can last for several hours. At the time of writing, Rise of the Resistance, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and the Walt Disney World Railroad have both reopened, but the other two major attractions were still down.

Dinosaur When CLOSED

Here’s what to do if a ride suddenly closes during your trip:

  • Check the My Disney Experience app constantly for updates (if a wait time for the ride is displayed, you’ll know the ride has likely reopened)
  • Ask Cast Members outside of the ride if they know what has happened and if they have a better idea about when the ride might reopen
  • Come up with a plan “B” in advance in case one of your must-do rides unexpectedly closes
  • Mentally prepare little ones for potential closures by discussing the possibility at home
  • Use that closure time to knock other things off of your list, take a break, grab a snack, or otherwise utilize your time in the park!
