There has been a LOT of construction going on in Disney World lately.

From updates at the Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana attraction at EPCOT to dramatic changes in the construction of the new Disney Vacation Club villas at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and even a new walkway in EPCOT, there’s a whole bunch going on. And now we’ve got updates about another construction project that’s ongoing in Disney World.
In 2023, a brand NEW restaurant will open on Disney’s BoardWalk — The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers! This spot will have it all — a sweet menu, a savory menu, afternoon tea service, a table-service option, and the ability to get items to-go from the bakery.

We’ve seen construction on this restaurant progressing over the past few months, but now we’ve got a NEW update. On March 28th, a new permit was recorded in Orange County, Florida related to upcoming construction on the restaurant. The permit specifically notes that it is for “the buildout of the Cake Bake Shop at Disney.”
That doesn’t tell us exactly what will be happening, but it could signal some big changes coming to this area soon!

The permit notes that the lessee of the property is The Cake Bake Shop, while the titleholder of the property is Disney. But, more importantly, it notes that the contractor for this work will be Johnson-Lancaster and Associates, Inc. Why is this important? Well, it gives us a clue as to what is happening here!
According to their LinkedIn, the company’s specialties include “Foodservice Equipment, Project Management, Foodservice Equipment Installation, Restaurant Supplies, and Design/Build.” They describe themselves as the “premier food service equipment contractors in the United States and the Caribbean.”

They’ve worked on a number of things including the Orlando Events Center (Orlando Magic Arena), the Three Broom Sticks in Universal Studios, California Grill at the Contemporary Resort, the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios, and much more.
We’ll be interested to see just how much more built up the restaurant becomes in the coming weeks and months. Stick around for more construction updates as things progress.

And remember the restaurant is scheduled to open in 2023, so check back with us for menu updates and more information as that is released! For more Disney World stories, see our posts below.
