Walt Disney stated when he created Disneyland, that the park would never truly be finished, and that it would continue to grow and change.

And, honestly, that’s one of the things guests love about Disney parks. Though they all still invoke that nostalgic fun and whimsy of childhood, they are constantly updated to bring the latest innovations and stay relevant with today’s park guests. Disney has access to a wide portfolio of intellectual property, a seemingly boundless imagination, and incredibly brilliant and talented Imagineers, but there are still some rides that you’ll probably NEVER find in Disney World.
Let’s take a look at some of the rides and attractions you’ll never see in Disney World (right now) and what might have to change to make them possible.
Certain Marvel Properties
Before Disney owned Marvel, Universal bought the theme park rights under two stipulations: they had to use the intellectual properties to keep the rights, and two separate zones of the country were created where the rights could apply — east and west of the Mississippi River.

As you might know, Universal Orlando has a whole Marvel-themed land with Marvel Super Hero Island. So they’ve retained the theme park rights for any heroes that are represented in the park, like Spider-Man, Hulk, and many more. Due to the original stipulations, these rights are only valid east of the Mississippi.

You can see some Marvel heroes in Disney World. We’ve seen events featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Guardians of the Galaxy — Cosmic Rewind. That’s because the Guardians aren’t featured in Universal Orlando.

There are a few characters that are big names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are not represented at the Universal theme parks. So there could be possibility for Disney to incorporate other heroes that aren’t featured in Universal, like Shang-Chi and The Eternals.
So, as much as we’d love a Wakanda section built near Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we’ll just have to be happy chanting “Sivako!” instead of “Wakanda Forever!” until we visit Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure. And needless to say, you won’t find any DC heroes roaming Disney World either (Batman will keep his Gotham City citizenship).

Disney has invested so much in developing Avengers Campus on the west coast in Disney California Adventure, those characters and that unique appeal and land help create more of a demand for families to visit those parks to enjoy unique experiences that aren’t available at both parks.

Cars Land & Other Unique Lands
And, speaking of unique attractions and lands for the different Disney parks, that leads us to our next item of rides or attractions that will never come to Disney World — park-specific unique experiences.

Now, bear with us as we take a stroll down memory lane, waaaaaay back to 2005 when Disneyland celebrated its 50th anniversary and all of the parks celebrated the “Happiest Celebration on Earth.” For this celebration, all of the Disney parks from around the world sent some of their most popular attractions to Disney World. This included: Soarin’ over California (from the California Disney parks), Cinderella-bration Stage Show (from the Tokyo Disney parks), Lights, Motors, Action: Extreme Stuntshow (from the Paris Disney parks), and the opening of Expedition Everest.

So why are we bringing up that little nugget of Disney history? Well, to make a point that Disney does like to keep some attractions and lands as unique experiences to their home parks. For that special 50-year celebration, some unique attractions came to Disney World, but Disney doesn’t always make a habit of “copy and pasting” the same park with the same attractions all over the world.

Of course, for every rule, there are some (or several) exceptions (looking at you, TRON). You will find some classic and iconic rides at all (or most) of the Disney parks, so no matter which park you visit, you’ll get to experience some version of Haunted Mansion, though each park has its own unique take. But Disney does want to keep some unique attractions at each park to give guests yet another reason to make plans to visit them. If you have big Cars and Marvel fans in your family, you’ll have an incentive to visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, even if Disney World is technically closer to you.

Just another excuse you can justify visiting more than one Disney park. Because you’re constantly looking for an excuse to book another Disney trip, right? See, Disney’s got you covered.

Problematic or Not-Family-Friendly Theming
Remember how we said that Disney has access to A LOT of intellectual property? Well, it does, but not all of it is family-friendly. Just because Disney owns it (or the rights to it) doesn’t mean it will be in a Disney park. Say, for example, Deadpool. This Marvel anti-hero has an edgy appeal that makes him a favorite for many, but his particular *ahem* …brand, doesn’t necessarily fit with the Disney family-friendly environment. So, you probably won’t get to experience a Deadpool meet-and-greet in the parks any time soon.

Disney also has some of its own creations that haven’t exactly aged well. We’ve seen Disney modify and update Pirates of the Caribbean, like adding Redd to the auction scene. And the retheming of Splash Mountain away from the Song of the South, and providing a new home to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. But there are still culturally insensitive and offensive depictions in some films that will prevent them from being featured in new attractions.

That’s an overview of rides, attractions, and experiences you’ll probably never find in Disney World. Stay tuned to AllEars for more details on Disney news and updates!
