‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Becomes Seventh-Highest Grossing Film of All Time

What was your favorite movie that came out in 2022?

Maybe it was a Marvel movie like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or an animated movie like Strange World? Based on box office numbers, Avatar: The Way of Water was the biggest film of the year and now it just passed one of the most famous movies of all time!

Although the new Avatar film did not perform as well as expected initially, the James Cameron directed movie is now the seventh highest grossing film of all time (according to Variety).

This spot previously belonged to Jurassic World which made $1.67 billion in the box office. Avatar: The Way of Water has officially passed $1.7 billion as of Sunday, January 8th — this is just 4 weeks after it originally released in theaters.

In the international box office, this film is the fifth-highest movie behind Titanic, Avatar, and two Avengers movies. It is also the second-highest performing film since the COVID-19 pandemic only after Spider-Man: No Way Home with $1.91 billion.
