With so many streaming services out there — Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and so many more — sometimes picking what to watch can be overwhelming, and there’s constantly new content coming out. A highly anticipated series released its first two episodes on September 1st, and Amazon has reported its view count in the first 24 hours has broken all previous records!

According to Variety, the first two episodes of the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV show that debuted on September 1st have broken all previous Amazon Prime Video debut records with 25 million people worldwide watching the show in the first 24 hours. That’s over a million people an hour!

The episodes were available for viewing in 240 countries and territories. Amazon didn’t specify how they count the views, and this is the first time they’ve released numbers for a Prime series. Therefore, it’s hard to tell how Amazon’s other series have debuted next to it, but Amazon did state that this premiere broke “all previous records, marking the biggest premiere in the history of Prime Video.”

The premiere has also been closely compared and associated with HBO’s House of the Dragon series premiere, which drew nearly 10 million viewers on the first day. If you’re more of a Disney+ fan, Disney+ day is coming up later this week, and you can check out all the new content coming to Disney+ and Netflix this month as well.
