Here’s Why You’re Fed Up With the Changes at EPCOT

If you’ve been to EPCOT recently, you’ll know that the park is going through a huge transformation!

Spaceship Earth

The complete overhaul of the park was announced a few years ago, and since then, we’ve seen some of the parks new elements come to life including new rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, as well as the new restaurant, Connections Cafe, and the Creations shop. The EPCOT Transformation is far from over, so we went to our Facebook page to ask you what you really think about it!

From the new experiences at EPCOT that we’ve already seen, to the ones that are still on the way, to the ones that have been cancelled, there’s a lot to think about when it comes to EPCOT’s transformation, so we asked our readers:

How do you feel about the EPCOT Transformation?

The response we got the most was, understandably, that it’s taking a very long time. The overhaul was announced in 2019, and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic had a huge effect on construction in the park, but years later, some fans are feeling antsy, saying, “Taking longer than it took to build the entire park!” Which is true! The original construction for EPCOT only took 3 years, and 3 years into the transformation we still haven’t seen all that much.

Some fans have reservations about all of the Intellectual Properties, or IPs, that have come to the park. When EPCOT opened, the attractions didn’t really center on established Disney characters, but with the addition of Ratatouille  and Guardians of the Galaxy themed rides, and a Moana attraction in the works, some of you feel like EPCOT is getting saturated with IP, saying, ” Now it’s just another excuse to put in movie tie ins and characters from movies.”

However, many of you mentioned how EPCOT continuing to develop as a park is true to the park’s dedication to progress and Walt’s idea that the parks would never be truly finished! You said, “Walt himself envisioned Epcot as a park that would continue evolving so 🤷‍♀️ keep moving forward!” and another one of you mentioned how EPCOT is getting some much needed life breathed into it, saying, “When you label anything ‘Future’ or ‘Tomorrow’, at some point, the present catches up. The park was stale and this seems to give it new life.”

  1. EPCOT has lost its way. It was unique because it wasn’t about rides it was about education, information, technology, advances in science and learning about cultures and countries. Now it’s becoming a jumble of anything and everything;

    It started with the removal of the Norway attraction and the replacement with ‘Frozen’ (nothing whatever to do with Norway) and was followed by Ratatouille and now ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Totally misplaced.

    Sad and disappointed by the way this park has deteriorated.

  2. The original idea of EPCOT was featuring technology and culture. The park is getting too far away from the original idea,especially the advancements in technology. EPCOT is becoming like any other theme park, I stead of being unique. Very Disappointed!
