Disney CEO Comments on Park Capacity, Obi-Wan Release Date, and Disney News You Missed!

The company recently held its Q1 Earnings Call, so we expected to learn a lot more about Disney’s financial status, as well as learn more about Disney+, Disney Parks, and more. So in case you didn’t manage to keep up with all the news this week, we’re breaking it down to the biggest stories.

Disney Comments On Recent Park Capacity

We’ve never been given actual numbers about capacity at Disney Parks, but we have noticed a lot more people this time of year, as compared to this time last year. Disney CEO Bob Chapek did sort of answer a question about capacity, though, by stating that the parks were “generally operating without significant mandatory COVID-19-related capacity restrictions.”

He did bring up the park pass reservation system that the company put in place when the parks reopened in 2020. He said, “However, we continue to manage capacity to address ongoing COVID-19 considerations with respect to guest and cast health and safety.

Disney Had Its Second-Best Quarter of ALL TIME In Terms of Profit

Meanwhile, Disney is raking in profits. According to Disney’s quarterly earnings report, the Walt Disney Company had total revenue of $21.819 billion in Q1 2022. This is an increase of more than $5 billion from Q1 2021, meaning that Disney has continued to recover from its pandemic losses.

This profit also makes the most recent quarter the second-best quarter of ALL TIME for the company. When broken down, $14.5 billion of that profit came from Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, while $7.2 billion came from Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.

Disney Reports Increase in Disney+ Subscribers

Disney+ debuted over two years ago, and since then, it has continued to gain more subscribers. In October, the company reported that the streaming subscription service had 118.1 million subscribers.

Disney has now reported that Disney+ now has 129.8 million subscribers. That’s 11.8 million subscribers gained since October 2021. As the service continues to release more original content, specifically in the Star Wars and Marvel franchises, those numbers are sure to continue upward.

Disney Wish Is Taking Reservations Again

Last week, new bookings onboard the Disney Wish were suspended and the company announced that it had been forced to delay the ship’s maiden voyage by over a month. However, bookings have opened up again for the Disney Wish.

The maiden voyage of the Disney Wish has moved from June 9th, 2022 to July 14th, 2022.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Gets Release Date

One of the most highly-anticipated series coming to Disney+ now has a release date. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is headed to Disney+ sooner than you think — on May 25th, 2022.

The series will take place ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, putting its timeline before Star Wars: A New Hope. It brings back both Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker.
