A lot has changed over the past year when it comes to face mask mandates at theme parks across the U.S. — and, things continue to evolve even now.

At Universal Studios Hollywood, the mask policy has shifted quite a few times since the park reopened from being required in all locations, to being optional, and then back to being mandated at all indoor locations. And, according to their website, the policy has shifted once again.
Universal Studios Hollywood’s website now states that face coverings are “required to be worn at all times, both indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status. However, those visiting Universal CityWalk will only be required to wear face coverings at all indoor locations.

This update comes as new requirements have been issued for Los Angeles County, mandating that those attending “mega events” either indoors or outdoors wear a face mask regardless of vaccination status, except when actively eating or drinking.

Additionally, LA County will also soon be implementing a new policy for all “mega events,” requiring that they ask for proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test beginning October 7th, 2021.

Previously, theme parks were not categorized as “mega events” in the county, however, the state recently reclassified them to this for the purposes of these policies.

Universal Studios Hollywood has yet to announce any information on COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements, but we’ll continue to keep an eye out for the latest updates so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars!
