Recently, system-wide disruptions have been causing problems for Spirit, and several flights both this weekend and today, August 2nd, have been canceled as a result.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Spirit Airlines canceled 22 of the 73 flights that were supposed to depart from the Orlando International Airport today. The cancelations are attributed to a system-wide breakdown, a shortage of staff members, and bad weather across the country.

Several other airlines have also been canceling flights recently, such as Southwest, American, and others. Although weather can be partially to blame, another big issue that’s affecting all kinds of travel is the shortage of staff. Travel was put on pause last year due to the pandemic, and it has risen sharply as more destinations are re-opening and people feel the need to get out of their houses and travel again!

On the Way to Baggage Claim

Spirit Airlines has been adding flights to their schedules to meet this need while still trying to fill positions for grounds crew, pilots, and other staff members, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Between the increased demand, shortage of staff, bad weather, and system issues, Spirit had to cancel several flights. Hopefully they’ll be back up to running normally soon!
