Believe it or not, Disney trash cans have a fan following of their own in the parks!

That might sound strange, but it’s true! Disney trash cans are usually themed to match the parks they’re in, and we can’t get enough of the clever ways Disney incorporates them into the design. Now, at Disneyland, there’s a new trash can that is set to become a staple in the Disney parks!
Disneyland added a food waste bin to their garbage can set at Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland.

This new bin is a step in Disney’s plan to send zero food waste to landfills by 2030! According to the Orange County Register, “Disneyland Resort has been recovering food scraps since 2014,” which is then “sent to a third-party vendor to be converted into feed nutrients for farm animals.”

Disney announced several goals for environmental sustainability this year on April 1st in celebration of Earth Month! They hope to achieve all of these by 2030, and the new food waste bin is part of that plan! Food waste in landfills releases methane, which harms the environment and contributes to global warming. If that waste can instead be repurposed, it will not only help as nutrients for farm animals, it will also reduce the methane being released from landfills.

You can help Disney in their effort to be more environmentally sustainable by bringing reusable straws and utensils into the parks, sorting your trash into food waste, recyclables, and trash, and using the Disney app to purchase food and souvenirs so that you get a digital receipt rather than a paper one!
