As Disney continues to make adaptations to the way the parks operate, we’ve recently seen a heavy focus on mobile engagement.

While the parks place emphasis on My Disney Experience regularly for dining, merchandise, wait times, and more, the app has even become a virtual MagicBand through the MagicMobile feature. And, as Disney adds more options to MagicMobile, the parks have implemented changes to the actual physical MagicBand service so the accessories are no longer free to both hotel guests and, beginning in August, Annual Passholders.
After Disney World announced that MagicBands would no longer be complementary for Annual Passholders yesterday, the accessories have seen a BIG price increase in the parks and online.

Previously, the regular single-colored bands were available for $14.99Â when purchased from the stores in Disney World or on shopDisney. Now, though, they have seen an additional $5 fee, bumping them up to $19.99Â for the MagicBands.

The other specialty MagicBands have also seen price increases as the Bronze themed MagicBands leapt from $24.99 to $29.99 and the limited release Amethyst MagicBands went from $29.99 to $34.99.

Disney is currently trying to shift guests to use more of the MagicMobile features versus the physical MagicBands around the parks. But, we’ll have to keep an eye out for any other changes coming to the service soon. In the meantime, stay tuned with AllEars for the latest Disney news!

What do those who don’t have smart phones, the elderly or very young do? My elderly parents would have no idea how to navigate around the mobile app?
Another example of the worsening Disney greed. I guess one and done business is okay for getting a few extra dollars today. Removing perks, increasing prices is a good reason to do elsewhere.
Hi! Love all ears.net. 🙂 Question: why do you think they’re trying to get guests to use mobile vs bands in the parks?
It’s all very well pushing you to being mobile but if you don’t have a roaming/USA data plan or don’t want to have your phone out all the time it’s better to have a magic band. We’re from the UK and don’t have a us data plan and found Disney WiFi sketchy at times so prefer the bands
That was my thought, Sarah. This seems to be aimed at getting a few more bucks…er…euros, pounds, etc., out of overseas guests. I don’t think many domestic guests are going to continue using magic bands.
