NEWS: Netflix Missed Their Quarter Goal by Millions

The past year may have been challenging for many companies, but it has been a time for the streaming industry to thrive!

Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, and other major streaming services brought in quite a few subscribers during the pandemic due to the fact that everyone was stuck at home. Disney+ was so successful that the Walt Disney Company is even shifting its main focus to media content. Unfortunately, those big numbers didn’t last too long for Netflix, because the Disney+ competitor had a rough Q1!

According to Frank Pallotta, a media reporter for CNN, Netflix missed its projected subscriber count in Q1 by 2 million. The streaming service now has 207.6 million subscribers, but the goal was to hit 209.6 million.

We reported back in February that Disney+ is set to pass Netflix’s subscriber count in 2026, but if this trend continues, it could be sooner. Nowadays, there are so many competing streaming services that Netflix is no longer home to the majority of the content. Many shows have left Netflix to go to smaller services like Peacock, Paramount+, and HBO Max.
