We’ve been keeping a close eye on any news regarding the new Brightline train route coming to Disney World!
The new line will connect Disney World to the Orlando International Airport, and then all the way down to Miami (with an eventual addition of a Tampa route). We recently learned that the Disney Springs route will likely not be completed until 2026, and now we’ve got more details on the construction of that segment. Could Universal Orlando be getting its own stop as well?
According to the Orlando Business Journal, Brightline is considering two possible routes of travel between Disney Spring and MCO, one of which includes a connection to International Drive. Currently, Orlando officials and representatives from Universal Orlando are planning meetings with Brightline to discuss this option.
The Orlando Business Journal reports that the line from South Florida to the MCO airport is currently about halfway complete with plans to begin service in 2023. The Orlando to Tampa route (with a stop in Disney Springs) isn’t expected to begin running until 2026. This line could cost up to $2.1 billion if Brightline decides to build the more expensive route down State Road 528 towards I-Drive.
In a statement to the paper, Maria Triscari, the president and CEO of the International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce said, “The International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce has been holding meetings with Brightline to further discuss route options.” She noted that “a mass transit from OIA to I-Drive is imperative to best service our community and continue the economic growth of our entire region.”
The goal is to establish a station at the Orange County Convention Center, where millions of guests travel each year. This stop would make travel much easier for guests flying into Orlando to attend conventions — they’d be able to get on the train at the airport and go directly to their destination.
We’ll make sure to keep you updated as we get more details on this project. Stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news in Central Florida travel!
Here’s Where the Brightline Train Could Drop Off in Disney Springs!
Would you take this train from MCO to Disney World or Universal Orlando? Let us know in the comments!
Maybe Universal will engage Mears for a Wizardly Express to their resort, and the bags will appear in your room….like magic.
Will the Magical Express convert to a fee-for-service Mears opperation?
Will Disney maintain any sort of transportation window at MCO?
