NEWS: Florida Governor Has Signed a New Executive Order on Vaccine Passports

Earlier this week, we shared the news that several versions of a “vaccine passport” were in development, which private businesses and local governments could adopt in requiring both staff and visitors to provide in order to gain access to certain activities, such as travel or leisure. The passports would be a means in which an individual could prove that they had received the COVID-19 vaccine.

In response to the news of the passports being in the works, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that he is “not supporting doing any vaccine passports in the state of Florida.”

Today, Fox 35 Orlando reported that DeSantis has issued an executive order which would ban both local governments and businesses from requiring vaccine passports.

While the executive order is signed, it is not yet state law. DeSantis issued a statement today on Twitter saying that “The Legislature is working on making permanent these protections for Floridians and I look forward to signing them into law soon.”

Several businesses have already taken steps to requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including Royal Caribbean, who hopes to resume sailings this summer out of The Bahamas.
