NEWS: Florida Governor Wants Theme Parks to Come Up With Reopening Plans

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference today, announcing that the state will move into a “Full Phase One” starting on Monday, May 18th.

While this step forward includes increasing restaurant capacity and allowing additional businesses such as gyms to open, many questions remain on when theme parks and major attractions throughout the state can begin to open.

When discussing theme parks, DeSantis requested that theme parks “submit reopening plans” to the state, which would include dates in which the theme parks believe they could open and operate safely. While safety comes first, DeSantis also noted that he wants to “get to ‘yes’ on this.”

The governor requested that theme parks work with their local authorities and leaders to come up with these safety plans. Much of the work appears to fall on the businesses themselves to come up with these plans, and then the plan needs to be endorsed by local officials, for example, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.

As CityWalk resumes partial operations and Disney Springs prepares to reopen on May 20th, all eyes will be on Central Florida to see what their next move will be in reopening more local attractions. Moving forward, we will continue to provide any and all updates!

  1. No way. They will not be able to enforce social distancing or masks with the throws of crowds these places draw. Until there’s a vaccine, it’s a definite no.

  2. Not until there is vaccine and Disneyland in Ca is open where the numbers are not going up like Florida.
